Although he never finished high school he was extremely well read. He was a thinker and his social ideas put him well ahead of his time. He was a quiet family man who adored his wife and children.

He married Roslyn Lantor on March 24, 1935 and they had three children: Arlene, married to Larry Wenokur, Dianne, married to Henri Mouradian and Michael Gold, married to Claire Lichtenstein. He had six grandchildren, Alan Wenokur, Shari Wenokur Smith and Robert (Bob) Wenokur, Daniel Mouradian, Karen Mouradian Diskin and Marc Mouradian. Although he never lived to see his grandchildren marry, he had fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was a well respected merchant and the owner of a men's store in Detroit where he also rented tuxedos. He was very compassionate, charitable and a mentor to several children.
