Herbert P. Ross

Herbert Klaus Peter Rosenberg was born July 1, 1908 in Berlin, Germany. He was the son of Eugen Rosenberg and Frieda (Magnus) Rosenberg. He had three older brothers,Julius, Hans Karl, and Heinz. In 1938 he applied for a visa to the United States and waited while hiding on the French side of Brussels. He was arrested by the Germans and taken by cattle wagon to a concentration camp in St. Cyprien France. In August 1940 he escaped and went to Toulouse where he bought a false identity card. He then hid in La Ciotat. In February 1941 the US visa came. In March 1941 a sugar boat brought him from Marseilles to Martinique. He arrived in New York May 1941. He was resettled in Detroit, Michigan. He became an American soldier in November 1942. He changed his name to Herbert Ross. He served in Europe until December 1945 and got an honorable discharge. Back in Detroit he met Ruth Reinhold who became his wife in May 1948. They had a son, Edgar and a daughter Renee. They both married and had 2 children each, Lindsey and Jason Ross and Emily and Hannah Engelson. His daughter, Renee Engelson, was the wife of the late Bruce B. Engelson. She is now married to Ira Sklar. His son Edgar Ross is married to Nanette Ross. Herbert's granddaughter Lindsey Ross (Edgar's daughter) is married to Joshua Rennert. Another grandchild, Emily Engelson (Renee's daughter)is married to Koby Bar.
