Philip F. Schiffer
Jan 13, 2003 י' שבט תשס"ג
His first real job was a stock clerk at a sportswear company owned by a not-too-close relative. His talent was recognized, and through a progression of promotions, he was put in charge of all styling and production. After twenty-six years with the same company, he sought greener pastures and a succession of more responsible positions with the leading sportswear companies of the era, including Majestic, Bobbie Brooks, and Aileen. After a heart attack slowed him down, he joined a children's knit company where he spent the remainder of his career.
Philly was the warmest and friendliest of men. He could strike up a conversation anywhere with anybody. He was an avid sports fan and played handball and softball into his forties. He was an affectionate and loving grandfather. Michael and Eric still talk about his Saturday morning “Papa Philly” scrambled eggs.
He spent most of his retirement in Delray Beach. He moved to Michigan in 2002, but his failing health led to death shortly thereafter.
