Betty Weiss
Mar 13, 2015      כ"ב אדר א תשע"ה

Betty Lora Levine was the youngest of four children (siblings Lillian, Norman, and Eva) born to Sadie and Harry Levine. She was born November 27, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan; a first-generation American. Raised in Detroit, she graduated from Central High School and became a bookkeeper. During WWII, she volunteered in a canteen that welcomed Jewish servicemen.

Betty met her future husband, Sidney Weiss, after the war. They married in 1947 and had four children (Mark, Deborah, Sherelyn, and Paul). In 1961, Betty and Sidney went into the grocery business. After Sidney passed in 1977, Betty operated the business alone for another 4 years, then sold it and became an active member of National Council of Jewish Women. She delivered Meals on Wheels and coordinated Up and Out activities. She shared her kindness in the form of a warm meal with a smile and a friendly ear making all around her feel valuable. Along with her volunteer work, at a late age she overcame her fear of flying and traveled the world with friends and family.

Betty lived life with a big heart full of love for her family. She loved to host all of the holidays (everyone had an assigned seat). Although Betty was afraid of the water and never swam she insisted that any place she lived must have a pool for her grandchildren to play in. She believed in the importance of spending time and having fun with family.

Betty delighted in her seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren before passing on March 13, 2015 after a struggle with Dementia.
